Cox Pulls Billboard Campaign in Face of Fathers' Protests!

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox has wisely decided to pull his billboard contest wherein  children would draw designs critical of noncustodial fathers who have allegedly not paid child support.

Cox announced in September that his contest "encourages parent involvement in discussing the issue and assisting in crafting the message and visual representation... that clearly conveys the message of encouraging the payment of child support."

As I noted to Fox News this week, in this campaign "custodial mothers are encouraged to coach their children to make designs critical of noncustodial parents behind on child support. And it doesn't take much imagination to figure out which noncustodial father many mothers will be encouraging their children to denounce."

In fact, many divorce decrees specifically instruct parents not to denigrate or badmouth the other parent in the presence of the children. It is very inappropriate for the top law enforcement official in the state of Michigan to hold a contest which encourages parents to do this, and I am glad that Mike Cox understands the problem and has responded appropriately.

Thanks to all His Side listeners who responded to our 10/3 call to action and congratulations to all those who worked to bring an end to this misguided campaign. These include: the American Coalition for Fathers and Children; Dads of Michigan; Dan Diebolt of Michigan Dads; internet broadcaster Richard Farr of KRightsRadio.com; the Fathers Helping Fathers Network; longtime Michigan fathers' rights activist Murray Davis; Samantha Anne and MichDads; Eric Ross of the ACFC; Dan Wilson and Michigan's Parents For Children; and countless others.

Best Wishes,
Glenn Sacks
