Bridget Marks PAS/Custody Case

For the first segment of the show I discussed the Bridget Marks PAS/Custody Case. For background information, see "TUG-OF-LOVE ENDS IN AGONY" (New York Post, 6/1/04).  The New York Daily News and New York Post seem to have given it the most attention.

Some of the other topics we discussed included:

1) Chad Taylor, a New Mexico father who was reported to New Mexico's Department of Children, Youth and Families and reportedly threatened with loss of custody and criminal charges for child abuse for taking his son off of Ritalin. The boy's teachers preferred that he remain drugged. For more information on the case, see ABCNEWS.com : Dad Investigated for Taking Son Off Meds (6/7/04). Also, see my columns The 'Boy Parent Dilemma', (Los Angeles Daily News, 9/6/02), Boys: The New Underclass in American Schools (Los Angeles Daily Journal, San Francisco Daily Journal, 4/15/02), and Mysterious Decline-Where Are the Men on Campus? f
rom Abuse Your Illusions: The Disinformation Guide to Media Mirages and Establishment Lies published by The Disinformation Company (May, 2003) (co-authored by Phil Cook).

2) The Campaign for Our Children's billboard campaign which depicts a live chicken in tennis shoes with the text, "What do you call a guy who makes a baby and flies the coop?" To see a picture of the billboard ads, click here and scroll down. I see the issue in the context of men's lack of reproductive rights. To learn more, see my columns 30 Years After Roe v. Wade, How About Choice for Men? (Mail &Guardian, 1/27/03) and Pennsylvania Abortion Case Raises Question of Choice for Men (Newsday, 8/7/02). The latter was coauthored by Dianna Thompson of the National Family Justice Association (NFJA).

3) A caller asked me about the largely mythical "wage gap" between men and women. For more information, see my ancient column Is Pay a Function of Gender Bias? (Los Angeles Times, 5/12/01).

4) Another caller, a divorced dad who is the target parent in a parental alienation campaign, said he made the mistake of citing His Side during his custody trial to substantiate his position on Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS). Apparently the alienating mom's attorney didn't take too kindly to this. To learn more about PAS, see our show The Heart of Darkness: Parental Alienation Syndrome (2/8/04). Guests included Jayne A. Major, Ph.D., of Breakthrough Parenting and family law attorney Jeff Leving.

5) Two people brought up the LaMusga move-away case. One was a caller who is trying to prevent her husband's ex-wife from moving his boy from California to Colorado. Another is a step dad who is trying to move his wife's daughter 2,500 away from the daughter's father. I hope my on-air response to him was not excessive. For background on LaMusga, see my columns Is a Pool More Important than a Dad? (San Francisco Chronicle, 5/4/04), (co-authored by family law attorney Jeff Leving) and California NOW Spits on My Wife (Sarasota Herald-Tribune, 2/23/04), as well as the His Side show
Gloria Allred vs. LaMusga's Attorney on Move-Aways (5/16/04).
